Comment by Peter jcp on December 21, 2012 at 4:51pm Lisa - yes - there will always be mental people - even if its just 0,01% of the population - but there will also be a lot more baddies around - who could even be police guys with guns.
Get them out the equation totally. They are just for war zones - and the only good points of a gun is that they can kill and maim. What other things are the good for ??
The NRA are really living in the past - all they are bothered about is selling guns and the gun industry - a bit like the cigarette manufacturers backing the freedom to smoke,
Last year in the UK - only 40 people died from gun related inicident, USA as a population of 5 times more - yet instead of a few hundred or even a thousand dying in America - it was between 15 and 30 thousand - killed with gun fire. DISGUSTING - and shows how out touch America is with the modern world.
PS if there is another war you will be nuked or gassed - forget guns - they are just modern day bow and arrows - Wake Up the people of the USA - Please wake up
Comment by cristotrading on December 21, 2012 at 5:00pm being an #nra supporter sprays blood on your hands. some people just live in the wild west back in the day. let them be, this will not move forward as good prevails and i trust our president fully in getting involved in this and banning high arsenal weapons and ammunition with support of sane people from this country
Comment by cristotrading on December 21, 2012 at 5:48pm 2nd amendment is overly interpreted by gun lobby that wants to sell more and more guns. problem is people like Limbaugh, Savage and some Fox anchors are washing brains of low educated americans into thinking that freedoms are taken away all the while our society develops and we become more and more civilized and have more rights than ever before. its sad to see what fear does in people minds!
Comment by cristotrading on December 21, 2012 at 6:01pm it was a simple school where kids go to learn about this amazing earth and play freely in recess time. how would that school look like pentagon with armed guards, teachers, locked rooms...hmm that sounds like alcatraz to me. good luck providing healthy education there!
Comment by cristotrading on December 21, 2012 at 6:19pm that is no the cause. its america's gun culture (with people holding up to 10 or more weapons in household) that leads to these outbursts. his mom had guns in the house what good did that do? Cheney shut someone in the face if i remember while hunting for fun like an idiot. pressure from republicans to slash spending from school programs and not wanting to let go of outrageous defense budget. however we twist i,t gun control is coming as a normal process in a civilized society and we cannot and hope we dont escape it!
Comment by cristotrading on December 21, 2012 at 6:25pm oh and one more thing, just because is in the constitution does not mean is set on stone..see slavery, woman right to vote, prohibition and so on. smart people adjust and change with the evolution!
Comment by cristotrading on December 21, 2012 at 6:47pm i guess so, thats why Obama won twice and la la land republican party with their Bubble heads leaders is where it is. have a great weekend everyone, apologize for rants but hopefully i came across with my points!
Comment by Peter jcp on December 22, 2012 at 1:48am We also have some silly outlandish old rules from our past in the UK. For example if you are given the "freedomship" of one our many cities for doing good work etc - you are then allowed to walk your sheep through the main streets. Yes this would have been very handy a few hundred years ago but is totally out of context today.
The World changes and in this last 50 -100 yrs its evolved more than in the past 500 years,
The US second amendment is just so out of date - its no longer relevant. Just like the Magna Carta from the 13th Century for the UK - that's why you adapt and change.
If you are burgled at home in the UK the chance of that thief or attacker having a gun is like 1 in a 1000. If you can get burgled in the US the thief is probably 80% certain to have a gun on him,
The government and the Police protect our houses and schools etc - by banning guns and not allowing 80% of normal citizens to have them. That is proper protection - ie take away the main problem - the gun.
If you are caught in the UK with a a gun and no proper permit etc - you could go to jail for up to 5 years. Personally I would go further and say - right we dont need guns any one caught with one faces the death sentence etc - ie Zero Tolerence - its worked on so many other things in the US - do it on guns.
Every argument put forward by the NRA is easily dismissed and proven elsewhere around the world. No other civilised countries have the problems the US have - ie approx 40 people a year out of 60 million die from gun wounds every year in the UK - compared to 15-30,000 in the US with less than five times more people. That proves the correlation - the more guns in society - the more murders.
This is exactly like other comparisons - ie people who smoke heavily or drink the same or eat just junk food - will die 10-30 yrs before healthy people. Similar the more cars per square mile etc - the more road accidents - the more guns out there - the more people shot.
The real fact are distorted by lobbyists Lisa - this need to protect your home or children with a gun - is just like saying we are living in an unsafe war zone - and are people are not civilised.
I dont know any of my friends and other people I know who own a gun - except 2 farmers who are allowed rifles.. I never have to worry that I will have my house broken into and be held to ransom with a gun - its just such a rare event and most thieves even suffer extra jail sentences carrying fake toy guns or knives.
I therefore guard my house with a baseball/ cricket bat and a panic alarm ( and basil) - No AK47's or machine guns or tanks are needed.;-))
America is a great country - but my - there are so many old fashioned "stuck in the mud" old timers who really cannot see the wood for the trees. They really don't know how other modern civilised countries are living - and just think their way is the best - because they have grown up with it.
Finally every time you post a link or anything connected with over 50 yrs ago Lisa - just proves my point - ie the past - and if you are so keen to live with it - get rid of your auto / mobile phone/ internet / electric / air conditioning / fridge / debit cards / camera's etc etc - and go back to the good old days - and enjoy ;-))
Have a great weekend
Regards
Peter
