Both are equally important but obviously depends upon the frequency the system trades. Regardless, I'd want nothing less than 3yrs of testing for any system before using it on a live forward test. But there is no set amount of trades as each system has different trading frequencies. Ideally the min would be about 500+ on the low end and several thousand on the upper end.
