Hi Keith - just reading in the UK Sunday times today about the US Elections - just 3 months away.

Living in the UK - our perception of Obama and Mitt Romney might be so much different to what the Americans are seeing. Mitt was a "twit" when he came over to the UK recently whereas Obama always looked the statesman and seem to get on well with European Leaders.

With whats happened in the World economy during this decade as seems a shame for all the politicians who get the "short straw" - ie "win" and have to try and pick up the pieces from the "good times" in the late 80's and 90's.

It seems to me that Mitt Romney has got a lot of support and money behind him to assist with his campaign - whereas Obama has had a tough time on all fronts and has not achieved what he had in mind. 

Its a shame when simply "money" can win an election campaign and it is estimated Romney will have the backing of $1.2 billion to help to snatch victory from Obama - who is not getting the support from the American corporate world.

Similar in the UK - the media and the corporates wanted the "left" out - less state intervention and spending and more "laissez faire" with capitalism. I voted for them and we ended up with a "hung" parliament - which at least as cut back on the spending culture we have had.

So in the UK - I suppose I am Republican bias - but given a straight choice between Mitt and Obama - I would still take Obama the Democrat - as I think he does care and wants America great again - but that spending cannot just keep carrying on

There are so many conspiracy theories floating around you tend to think many are completely made up - just to confuse people more and take them off the scent.

As a Brit who has always liked America - I don't really know what to believe. On one hand I have read different theories that the US as lied for years over so many things including its Oil Reserves and that' why it needed to control the Middle East - as it depended on their resources.

Similarly - the whole world know the US like fighting wars - simply to keep the defense budget massive so it can employ millions of people in all areas and make the arms industry wealthy by then selling its wares all around the world. Just like a big "call of duty" game with the stakes being worth trillions.

Throw in other factors - such as having the most corrupt financial industry in the world and far too many clever guys - who are too clever and devious for their own good ;-)  and then the fact for the last 50 years the US has believed its own "hype" and ended up with many Presidents who have been looked upon as "jokes" in terms of World politics

End result - A lot of unhappy Americans - but think about it - you could have been living in Greece or even other far less developed countries - so you are far from being alone in your plight for a better world for your children etc 

Just my thoughts - whilst I am feeling really proud this weekend being a Brit and seeing us win all these medals in the Olympics  ( medal per population capita - we are tops - hooray )

I think Thomas Jefferson was right and Sir Winston Churchill was a brilliant tactician and PM 

War. earthquakes and massive disasters might be looked upon in a very sad way of reducing the world wide population - which as doubled in the last 50 years

I agree the US as been the leading country for wanting "freedom" and protecting peoples human rights.

However its worth now remembering that 95% of the worlds population - are not American and in Europe - human rights as seemed to protect the crooks and the bad rather than the good , the honourable and the humans it should be protecting - food for thought

Poor Obama, here's me on this side of the pond thinking he's one of the good guys democratically elected by the populus of the USA because they had had enough of Bush and Co. I guess here's how the conspirators see the other side of the coin, there's Always the other side ;)

Hi Lisa and Keith - I have got to the stage that I have started to give up on Politics in the UK simply because its run by the PR - media - and how much money you have to support your cause.

The main original believes and concepts for the parties seem to have been lost in this ruthless - win at all cost society we now live in.

I do think that both the US and the UK latest elected governments - did get the short straw - and have had to pick up the pieces of the last 5-10 yrs of the other parties time in office during the good times.

The proverbial will hit the fan during the next 1-5 yrs and I think many clever politicians - will not want to win office - why should they? - when it easy just to be on the opposing side and keep saying they can do a better job.

Half the problem of the Eurozone is down to the politicians who have milked their time in office and set up so many quangos and money wasting projects that have just cost billions and achieved no progress - if anything taken things in the wrong direction.

The vote is important to every citizen in every country - but the people you are voting for - just do not deserve it

In the high tech world of today it would be better to have a referendum on every main topic with the majority deciding on the outcome - rather than PR - Media - Psychologists - etc trying to persuade you that they can do it better. Any elected party would then have to carry out the wishes of the majority of the countries citizens who have worked in at least the last  2 yrs and are over 18 and under 70.

That would upset the apple cart ;-)
