After starting the year recovering the losses seen in December 2013, February was a quite disappointing month and traffic figures fell an almost 6% in page views overall.
The extraordinary performance of the unique visitors seen in December and January had no follow up in December, so after bouncing to 850,000 uniques in January it fell to 777,000 in February.
On the positive side, we must highlight the great performance of our News and Economic Calendar App that is gaining momentum month after month and has already over 5,000 users per month. Also, worth to highlight the nice 24% rise in the traffic of our Chinese Traditional web site to 107k page views.
We adapted our website to a UE Directive known as Cookies Law on December. That directive requires websites to get consent from visitors to store or retrieve any information on a computer, smartphone or tablet. This adaptation caused some disruption in some of the metrics we track the first days after the change: Unique Users and News Visits increased in December because some of our returning visitors were tracked as a news visitors after the new terms and conditions agreement. Some days after, the situation was reestablished and we have again an accurate tracking of our users. Also we have improved our transparency because of a new and more clear way to inform about our cookies policy.
Comparing traffic data with same month previous year, the situation is mixed again. On one hand, we should be worried by the lack of momentum of visits and page views and an average pages per visit downwards. But on the positive front, we face a very healthy increase in unique visitors, time on site, and new visits while bounce rate keeping moving south.
Not really sure if I should be happy or worried.... what do you think?
