“feng shui” index ~ year of the snake ...

... promises calmer HK market : Year of the Snake article

HONG KONG - As the Year of the Snake slithers into sight, investors should take comfort that the reptile's traditionally negative effect on stock markets probably won't be so big this year, according to the astrological predictions of a Hong Kong brokerage.

CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets released its annual "feng shui" index on Wednesday ahead of the Chinese lunar new year, which begins Feb. 10. The report is based on the signs of the Chinese zodiac and features lighthearted predictions for financial markets, property and celebrities. Feng shui is the Chinese practice of arranging objects and choosing dates to improve luck.

"The snake is a skin shedder. That signifies radical changes," said Mariana Kou, CLSA's "sorcerer's apprentice."

The report noted that previous snake years have been associated with major turmoil such as the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the brutal government crackdown on protesters in Tiananmen Square in 1989 and the start of the Great Depression in 1929. Stock markets have often ended lower in recent snake years.

However, in 2013 there is "good balance on the five fundamental elements," fire, water, earth, metal and wood, which should rein in any significant upheaval, said Kou, whose official title at CLSA is research associate.

The brokerage's predictions, focused mostly on Hong Kong's stock market, are strictly tongue in cheek but feng shui, which translates as "wind water", is followed religiously by many investors in the southern Chinese city in the belief that it will help boost wealth.

Emily Lam, another "sorcerer's apprentice" who in real life is an institutional salesperson, outlined the industries that would benefit in the year of the "black water snake."

"As the water snake enters the picture, she brings along a lot of water on heavenly stems. This will counteract with the earthly branches, favoring transport, logistics, shipping, gambling, tourism and infrastructure."

Lam said metal is also positive, boding well for banking and financials, currency trading, autos and commodities. Fire will be lackluster because of the "overwhelming effects" of water, so associated industries like oil and gas, telecoms, technology and utilities will suffer.

Garment, fashion, retail and other companies associated with wood will be relatively stable while earth-related sectors like agriculture, construction, property, building materials and resources will be disappointing.

Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index will steer a serpentine course, the report predicted, slithering to a high at the end of July before sliding to a low by the start of October. It's expected to zigzag further before ending the year higher.

Analyst Philip Chow acknowledged that the predictions aren't supposed to be taken seriously, saying that the firm's investment research focused on "bottom up" fundamentals.

Morning Miss Lisa - I am thinking of rearranging my chart layouts on my monitors into a better pattern  -ie to feng shui them - trouble is I have not got a clue what the layout out would be to give me more peace and harmony ;-))

Any clues ?

Regards

Peter

I think it’s earth, wind, water & fire ~ right ?

You need some plants & rocks around your office …

a fish bowl and a little water fall …

a fan …

and keep your charts on fire ! (ړײ)

I’m getting ready to go out today, but I’d like to post some potential trends for the day (?)

There’s some *convergence* on the USD/JPY at highs and GBP/USD at lows etc. …

Have a good day ~ ☁ ☼ ☁

Cheers Lisa - yes heard fish tanks are good for traders offices - but not with piranha's - as there is enough of them the other side of your screens;-))

Look forward to your GU set ups  - have a great day

There is a thread in ForexFactory where its original author really made 100% success on astro trading, he is not posting anymore but others do. I followed it once and accuracy was staggering. This was standard western astro, but I also once tried shareware soft that was based on these chinese elements - and it was also quite accurate.

I dont know if its luck, but it was really interesting, only reason I stopped was that it was too complicated to me and I couldnt find exact specific info for each pairs of planet effect(say uran opposite neptune etc...). There was also need to calculate "birth date" for each currency and much more so I gave up.

That said, it was fun playing with ZET - while it last ;)

I’ve run across astrological trading, but didn’t look into it too much.

I’ve never been a big astrology follower even outside trading.

Having said that, I do think people are effected by the planetary cycles / gravitational pull

& weather changes etc.

We’re coming-up to a new moon here ...

& my 8 year-old son gets this out-of-control energy ..

where he doesn’t need much sleep and he’s *bouncing-off-the-walls*.

He was literally climbing-up the shower walls this morning while in the shower ...

after staying-up all night and then up before the roosters.

Since the markets are a reflection of collative human behavior, ...

I think it’s believable that the planetary cycles could be affecting us ...

which would intern effect / affect the markets (?)    ✿❀ Lisa ❀✿

Lisa, your son is a Spider Man, get him to the area 51 research facility ASAP! ;)

That said, once I read about it and was mentioned that above our heads are around 300000 volts and since human brain also work on electricity, it could have a point. Planets make magnetic collisions as they pass though it seems strange that such a distance as say jupiter/saturn could have any effect.

But guys I watched could even pinpoint specific period and longevity on markets(temporary bounces lasting up to few hours) - and they were mostly right, not to mention long term.
