Take all information with a grain of salt. If someone over complicates, its snake oil, if someone claims no errors, its snake oil, if someone can only show you results after the fact, its snake oil, if someone connects results with magical numbers, its snake oil, if someone claims unrealistic results, its snake oil , if someone cant explain themselves , its snake oil
snake oil is everywhere, although this is the best site ive come across for forex dialogue make no mistake its here as well.
do your own homework. discipline, consistancy, patience, combined with proper money management and correct thinking is all you need.
theres some pretty interesting folks saying some pretty smart things here but theres a fair share of snake oil selling as well.
Comment by Peter jcp on November 25, 2012 at 12:05pm Hi Talisman - when I saw the heading of your blog - I thought you might have been commenting on the CAD - ie with its correlation with Oil and the fact that it can move like a "snake" ;-))
However now realise it's an American phrase for "unproven" techniques etc - not one we are used to over here good old Great Britain (lol)
Totally agree with you though - you need to always carry out your own "due diligence" on any anything connected with the Forex market. I am sure I am not alone to have been "ripped" off when I first started by believing all I was told by the internet scammers telling me I could double my capital month in month out guaranteed etc etc.
As you say though I think this forum is very genuine and Francesc and the admin team do a great jobs of ensuring it stays at the top of the pile.
Have a good trading week
Regards
Peter
thanks forthe comment peter. i actually stopped for the most part trading cad for exactly the reason you said. this post sorta states the ovious but sometimes a reminder is a good thing. have a great day.
i thought the heading might generate some traffic. i was watching an old duster and saw a snake oil salesman and thought things havent changed that much lol.

Sure there is are people out there who are looking to put their hand in your pocket. But this is where your judgement and experiences in life come in. I never start with the premise that 'he is bad, watch out' but start with the premise that 'he is good unless he proves it otherwise'. If we go through life with a negative mindset the outcome will most likely not be in our favor.
Your comment is related to trading and posts made in this room, so I will add .. If someone posts historical facts, stuff like the trade he/she did or did not take yesterday/last week etc.. my thought is - well, you did not make this observation in real time, so yeah, yeah - and I move on. The only thing of a slight interest to me is why is this person making this post, perhaps there is some reason/agenda. But I do not give much further thought to that post.
However when someone makes a post ahead of time with an analysis and trade recommendation, now I sit up and take notice. I open my charts try to understand the analysis and see if I value it and make my own decision. But in this scenario it is clear to me that this person is sharing his knowledge/is a person who likes to help/is learning and wants confirmation that he is on the right track/is seeking recognition - all of these or some, it does not matter.
My most important conclusion for such posts is that this person does not have any other motives, he is not harmful by intent and is not looking to get something from me. No snake oil here.
Regards
@oasis-awesome response. you are oof course correct with your initial premise upon encountering something new. i promote this in my own life as well.
i myself have posted things after the fact as well as before, both winners and losers.
the key take home phrase in your response is " not harmful by intent ". that is well put and we are responsible for figuring out what information to take or not take.
the post was just to make sure we keep our eyes and ears open, and as u say let our life experience and judgement guide us.
Comment by Oasis on November 25, 2012 at 9:24pm Sorry Talisman if I gave the impression that your post was anything but well intended and a reminder to be on guard. Thanks for bringing this up.
