A Lesson from Seve Ballesteros
I once was dizzy from information overload. Astronauts, fighter pilots and submarine captains had less information at their disposal than I.
In those days, I had a dealing room position with eight screens and more systems that I could shake a stick at. It was not my choice. I took over from someone would designed this set up.
A few years into the job, I moved locations in the dealing room a number of times. With every move I cut back on the number of screens in front of me. Each re-organization required some negotiation to get a good perch.
I finally ended up asking a legendary lady, who led one of the most profitable areas of the business for some seats in her area. She obliged. However I will never forgot what she told me. She said “I could do this job just as well, sitting in the corner with a pencil and pad”.
Screens are great to look at, just don’t let yourself drown in useless information.
Seve Ballesteros could beat almost any golfer with just his 3 iron...

Another great golfer - Gary Player made that famous quote that can apply to most things -
"the more I practice - the luckier I get".
I think that applies to information as well. If you are experienced and sift through all the info - and find what you need - then you can handle information overload.
If you have the capacity and the skill level to handle it - then information is power
The only reason that lady who had the most profitable area of the business was because she had the experience - the skill level - the "gift" that Seve Ballesteros had.Not everyone will have it - so that's why so many say KISS - because 90%+ of all people never really test themselves and will always take the easy option and never get to the top of whatever they do
A question to ask yourself - Have you got the skill to sift out the relevant info - and ditch the dross ??

Seve could also get out of impossible situations with minimal damage. I would love to acquire that skill, since such occasions arise quite often.
