Permalink Reply by Andrew Lewis on June 24, 2011 at 3:39am It is surprisingly difficult to find other intermediate-level FX traders here in NYC who will actually meet you in person. There are groups, but the structure is usually one guru surrounded by newbies paying him a subscription. I meet retail/prop traders of stocks, futures and options every month, but at best they have only played with FX and don't really know how it works. Being an Online Trading Academy graduate, I sometimes drop in on the FX course at OTA and mix with the students during lunch, but they are too new as well. (I introduced myself with the story of when I started FX by scalping with standard lots and blew away my account). I have always worked better in a group (when doing stocks), but can't seem to put together anything similar in FX. FX is an entire asset class, but where are all the FX traders????

Seems to me that FX is still a stand-alone business as it probably was Stocks at the beginnings and now must progressively go to a social business.... social media is speeding things up quiet heavily so the transition could be fast..., two recommendations:
first... I would focus myself in stablishing good relations online with a group of fellow traders... here at forexstreet.net or at forexfactory.com are good starting points.
secondly... I would try to work out a in-person meeting in an important FX related event to be held in NY citiy... maybe the NY Traders Expo is a good place to start... think about it...
if you were interested in the NY Traders Expo option, I've got some contacts in the organization and we could try to contact them to see if they would be interested in helping you
